What an incredibly unbelievable time we are living in right now! Who would've thought we would be going through this right now? We have been trying not to go out if at all possible, but we went to Home Depot today and stocked up on paint and supplies we need to finish some last details on our new house. We got home and washed our hands and sanitized our phones and my purse and the things we touched while in the store. I have tried to prepare in case food isn't easy to come by later.
Some things I read make it seem really scary, and others things give me hope that everything will be ok. We can't deny that our lives will probably be affected by this virus and people we love may not make it.
I admit, I am a little worried and nervous. The waiting is hard. Not knowing what it will be like until it's over is scary.
But overall, I love all the funny memes that people are coming up with. We have friends that started a Quarantined Cabaret Page on Facebook where we can post ourselves singing karaoke and watch others sing. That was a super creative idea for us singers to stay connected.
In 2009, I surprised David with a trip to Vienna for his 40th birthday. It was a great trip. it's the Christmas capital of the world (according to the internet) and David's birthday is just before Christmas. We had a blast. When it came time to go home, and through a series of unfortunate events, we missed our flight home. If any one of the events had been different we would have made it, but alas, we did not. Suddenly, we went from being tourists, to survival mode. We went to the local store and bought just enough food to make it until our flight home three days later. We had to save the last bit of cash we had for the train back. We bought a deck of cards, in German, to play. We played cards, read books, and just hung out with each other for the last three days. We walked around and did free things. That has ended up being my favorite vacation because it was an adventure.
I am not saying that this will end up being my favorite event, by any means, but I believe we have to look for the joy in this moment, right now, this second. Add up all these seconds where we managed to find joy, and the moments of heartache that may come our way, will be sprinkled in between the good times.
I am thankful for my family, my friends, my creative theater friends, and my church family that I miss! I am confident, that at the end of this, we will look back and say "God was with us."
